Indian director of photography Richard (Ram) Prasad was born in 1965 and primarily works in the Telugu film industry. His mother is Smt. Subbalakshmi, and his father is Sri C. Madhav Rao. His mother is a homemaker, and his father, Sri C. Madhav Rao, works as a makeup artist in South India.
Since starting in the film business, Richard Prasad has provided cinematography for over 50 movies. From 1986 to 1988, he worked as an assistant cameraman in Telugu feature films, his first job in the film industry.
Richard Prasad pursued his career as an associate cameraman in Telugu feature films from 1989 to 1993 after realizing his passion for cinematography. In Pacha Thoranam, he eventually received his big break. Ever since, he has been employed as a cinematographer for numerous popular films, including Yevadu, Hanuman Junction, Athanokkade, Maryada Ramanna, and Mirapakay.
His father worked as a makeup artist in Chennai, where he spent his formative years. Although Ram Prasad’s father encouraged him to pursue a career in film, it was his love of cinematography that kept him going in that direction. This choice was not simple, though, as it came after much hardship in his formative years.
He enrolled in the Film Institute in Chennai to pursue a Diploma in Cinematography (D.F.T.-Diploma in Film Technology) after finishing his SSLC. His unwavering love for photography drove him to leave college early in order to pursue the chance to work as Late VSR Swami’s assistant, one of Tollywood’s most renowned directors.
Richard Prasad is a multi-award winner who gained recognition for his outstanding cinematography work in 2004 when he won the Sangam Academy Award for Best Cinematographer for the film “Nenu.” For the film “Athanokkade” in 2005, he received the A.P. Cinegoers Award for Best Cinematographer, and for the same film “Munna” in 2007, he received the Nandi Award for Best Cinematographer.
He has contributed to numerous English and Telegu films. Hyderabad Blues (in English), Mysterious Girl (in English), Hanuman Junction (in Telegu), Munna (in Telegu), Nenu (in Telegu), Rockford (in English), Swarnakka (in Telegu), and many more are among his well-known works. 2015 saw the release of his two most recent movies, Subramanyam for Sale and Malini and Co.
He is working on more projects in the Telegu Film Industry to further his career as a cinematographer.
