Biography:

Pavan Malhotra is a versatile Indian actor known for his work in Hindi films, television, and a few Punjabi and Telugu films. His impressive career has earned him accolades, including a Filmfare OTT Award and a Filmfare Award South, showcasing his excellence in the entertainment industry.Pavan Malhotra’s breakthrough came with lead roles in acclaimed films like Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s National Film Award-winning “Bagh Bahadur” and Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s “Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro,” both released in 1989.

His portrayal of the cold-blooded mafia don Irfan Khan in the Telugu blockbuster “Aithe” (2003) and the role of Tiger Memon in “Black Friday” (2004) garnered widespread recognition. In 2005, he showcased his versatility in the Telugu movie “Anukokunda Oka Roju” as a Tantrik, and in 2021, he gained further acclaim in SonyLIV’s web series “Tabbar.”Hailing from a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family in Delhi, Malhotra spent his early years in Nawabganj, Old Delhi, and pursued his education at HAPPY School.

After graduating in arts from Hansraj College, Delhi University, he entered the film industry as an assistant in the costume department of the film “Gandhi.” His journey continued as a production assistant in films like “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro,” “Khamosh,” and “Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!”Pavan Malhotra’s foray into acting commenced with Pankaj Parashar’s “Ab Ayega Mazaa” in 1984.

He ventured into the Delhi theatre circuit before making a mark in Mumbai’s television industry, starting as an assistant on the sets of “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi” (1984) and eventually landing a role in Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s TV series “Nukkad” (1986). His notable contributions include working with directors like Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Shyam Benegal, Deepa Mehta, and Roland Joffé.

In 2006, Malhotra appeared in Manish Goswami’s “Aisa Desh Hai Mera” on Sony television, showcasing his versatility in both cinema and television. He has been part of hit movies such as “Jab We Met,” “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” “Punjab 1984,” and “Children Of War.” A retrospective to celebrate his 25 years in cinema was held at India International Centre (IIC), Delhi, in 2016.

In the latest Hindi web series “Grahan” on Disney+ Hotstar, released on June 24, 2021, Pavan Malhotra played the character of Rishi Ranjan/Gursewak Singh, the father of Amrita Singh (Zoya Hussain). The series is based on Satya Vyas’ novel ‘Chaurasi.’ Pavan Malhotra’s career is a testament to his versatility and enduring contributions to the Indian entertainment landscape.
