Dalip Tahil

Biography:

Dalip Tahilramani, born on October 30, 1952, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, comes from a Sindhi Hindu family that had relocated from Sindh during the Partition of India. He received his education at Sherwood College in Nainital, India. Following a year at Aligarh Muslim University, he completed his graduation at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai.

Director Shyam Benegal discovered Dalip and offered him a role in his debut feature film “Ankur” in 1974. In 1980, Ramesh Sippy cast him as a villain in his grand production, “Shaan.” This was followed by a brief appearance in Sir Richard Attenborough’s “Gandhi” in 1982.

From the 1980s to 2013, Dalip took on significant character roles, often as a villain or in supportive roles like fathers or police officers, in more than 100 Bollywood films. He also featured in English films by Merchant Ivory, namely “The Deceivers” and “The Perfect Murder” in 1988.

In 1984, he played the role of Baby Sonia’s father in India’s first 3-D film, “My Dear Kuttichathan,” produced by Navodaya. In 2013, he portrayed Jawaharlal Nehru in Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” alongside Farhan Akhtar, who played the titular role of Milkha Singh. In 2007, he starred in the Punjabi film “Sajna ve Sajna.” One of his notable roles is that of Madan Chopra, a sinister businessman in “Baazigar” (1993). Additionally, Dalip played Rupert Dali in “Mission Mangal.”
