Biography:

D. Ramanaidu Film producer Daggubati Ramanaidu, who lived from June 6, 1936, to February 18, 2015, was well-known in Telugu cinema. In 1964, he established Suresh Productions, which grew to become one of India’s biggest production businesses. Having made over 150 films in 13 Indian languages, he was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most films created by a single person. From 1999 to 2004, he was also a member of parliament representing Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla constituency in the 13th Lok Sabha.

In 2012, Ramanaidu received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, for his contributions to the film industry.

For his contributions to Telugu film, he has also been honored with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South. Ramanaidu established the “Ramanaidu Charitable Trust” in 1991 and used a substantial portion of his money for various charitable causes.

On June 6, 1936, Daggubati Ramanaidu was born into an agrarian family in Karamchedu, a village in the Prakasam region of modern-day Andhra Pradesh. He finished his high school education in the hamlet, attended Chirala for his college education, and eventually received his diploma from Chennai’s Presidency College.

He began his professional life as the owner of a rice mill before entering the transportation industry.

In this period, his father collaborated with a family member to co-produce the Telugu movie Nammina Bantu (1958), which featured Savitri and Akkineni Nageswara Rao. In the movie, he played Nageswara Rao’s dupe. He was urged to go to Madras (now Chennai) to collaborate with filmmakers by Nageswara Rao. Unsatisfied with his rice mill, he closed it and relocated to Madras in 1962. Originally, he wanted to launch a brick and mortar company, but eventually moved into real estate. His regular attendance at the “Andhra Club” introduced him to the Telugu cinema fraternities.

Along with his pals Yarlagadda Lakshmaiah Chowdary and Tagirisa Hanumantha Rao, Ramanaidu co-produced the commercially unsuccessful film Anuragam in 1963. After that, he founded Suresh Productions, his own production company.
