American photographer and cinematographer Russell Paul Carpenter, ASC, was born on December 9, 1950. He has worked with filmmakers James Cameron, Robert Luketic, and McG. Titanic, the 1997 Best Picture winner, earned him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
Blockbuster movies including Hard Target (1993), True Lies (1994), Charlie’s Angels (2000) and its follow-up Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), Ant-Man (2015), and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) have included a lot of his work. Martin Scorsese’s documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World is one of his documentaries. The cinematography team received Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming, one of six nominations it received at the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, 2018 saw Carpenter get the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Cinematographers.
