Dia Mirza Rekhi, originally known as Dia Handrich, was born on December 9, 1981, and is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Hindi films. She achieved the title of Miss Asia Pacific International in 2000 after being crowned Femina Miss India Asia Pacific 2000. She marked her entry into acting with her debut film “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein” in 2001.
Subsequently, she appeared in movies like “Dus” (2005), “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” (2006), “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.” (2007), and “Sanju” (2018). She co-founded the production company Born Free Entertainment with her former husband Sahil Sangha. Their initial film “Love Breakups Zindagi” was released on October 7, 2011. After their separation, she established her independent production house called One India Stories in 2019. She also acted in the web series “Kaafir” in 2019.
During her college years, Mirza worked as a marketing executive at Neeraj’s Multi-media Studio. Simultaneously, she modeled for various print and TV advertisements, representing brands such as Lipton, Wall’s ice cream, Emami, among others. In 2000, she secured the second runner-up position at the Miss India pageant and subsequently clinched the Miss Asia Pacific title the same year.
Her debut film “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein” was a remake of Gautham Menon’s Tamil film “Minnale.” She further appeared in films like “Alag,” “Dum,” “Deewaanapan,” “Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge,” “Tumsa Nahin Dekha: A Love Story,” “Parineeta,” “Dus,” “Lage Raho Munna Bhai,” and “Salaam Mumbai.” In 2018, she portrayed Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manyata Dutt in the biopic “Sanju,” which ranks among the highest-grossing Indian films. Her role in “Thappad” (2020) contributed to the film’s recognition, leading it to win the Filmfare Award for Best Film.
In 2011, along with Sahil Sangha, her then-husband, she founded Born Free Entertainment, a production company. She has also produced films like “Love Breakups Zindagi,” “Bobby Jasoos,” and a web sitcom series titled “Mind the Malhotras,” available on Amazon Prime Video. In December 2019, she announced her intention to establish a new production house called “One India Stories” to create original content.
In 2019, she appeared in the ZEE5 web series “Kaafir,” set in Kashmir, co-starring alongside Mohit Raina. In terms of personal life, she became engaged to her business partner Sahil Sangha in April 2014, and they were married on October 18, 2014. However, the couple announced their separation in August 2019.
On February 15, 2021, Dia Mirza married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in Bandra, Mumbai. On April 1, 2021, she revealed that she was expecting her first child. On July 14, 2021, she joyfully shared that she had given birth prematurely to a baby boy named Avyaan Azaad Rekhi on May 14, and he spent two months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Furthermore, Mirza is also a stepmother to Samaira Rekhi from Vaibhav Rekhi’s previous marriage.
