Vishvak Khanderao, a debutante, wrote and directed the period comedy drama Skylab in the Indian language of Telugu in 2021. Rahul Ramakrishna, Satya Dev, and Nithya Menen star in the film, which is produced by Byte Features in collaboration with the Nithya Menen Company.
The story revolves around made-up events that occurred in a Telangana hamlet just before the US space station Skylab broke apart in 1979. In light of these changes, the video humorously depicts the fear that the locals are experiencing.
Plot
The movie takes place in 1979 in the isolated United Andhra Pradesh village of Bandalingampalli (now Telangana). Additionally, a US-based Skylab spacecraft is about to collapse, and its debris is about to crash into Earth at this time. The scientists who work in India are informed about the satellite dropping.
During the bus ride to Bandalingampalli, Dr. Anand and Subedar Ramarao become friends. After hearing about her father’s condition, Gowri leaves Hyderabad and returns. She rides in the same bus as Anand and Ramarao since her automobile broke down.
Gowri discovers upon arriving in the village that her father is doing well and that her mother and the servant gave false information. She chooses to write and publish on Instagram after returning from the city with disappointment.
Vishnu Oi and Gowri’s mother decide not to inform Gowri about the newspaper dismissal. Anand needs to make Rs. 5,000 in the interim to replace his lost medical license. In order to reopen the clinic after it has been closed for 25 years, he chooses to work with Ramarao.
Ramarao comes from a wealthy family that disapproves of menial labor. In order to reopen the clinic, Ramarao chooses to pawn off yet another piece of the family’s antique jewelry. They intend to make it a major village event in spite of the panchayat’s request that he not reopen the clinic. Gowri begins researching the process of getting her huge tale published.
Villagers start discussing the prospect of Skylab collapsing in India when it is mentioned on the radio. There is a big splash when the clinic opens, and word gets out. The locals decide to shut down the clinic and demand payment of a fine from Anand and Ramarao.
In the meantime, Gowri begins to terrify the locals by pointing out that there is a genuine chance that Skylab will crash into the village. The Panchayat chief collapses right away, and Anand is called for medical attention. The villagers consent to the clinic’s reopening after he informs them that the chief has to be taken care of there. After forty days, everyone starts to fear that Skylab might actually collapse in the town and starts looking for other safe havens.
Gowri’s school teacher gives her the idea to write a narrative about village life, which she eventually publishes. After his grandfather paid the required amount to obtain his last license, Anand decided not to stay in the village. When Anand and Ramarao assist with a birth, everything goes well and the village is happy.
In light of the D-day events, the untouchables occupy the entire temple, the maids and servants take advantage of their owners’ possessions, and everyone makes an effort to grant their wishes. Everyone is ecstatic when they finally hear over the radio that Skylab has fallen into the Indian Ocean.
