Plot
Munna (Aamir Khan), a spirited orphan raised on the streets, becomes close friends with Mili (Urmila Matondkar), the cheerful daughter of a kind-hearted family. The two share a deep bond and are drawn toward Mumbai’s film industry. Mili works as a background dancer, while Munna earns a living by selling movie tickets on the black market.
Mili dreams of becoming a lead actress, and her life takes a turn when her dance performance catches the eye of popular film star Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff). Impressed, Raj helps her get an audition for the lead role in his upcoming film Rangeela. With support from both Raj and Munna, Mili overcomes her initial flaws and secures the role.
As the film progresses, both Raj and Munna fall in love with Mili, though she remains unaware, caught up in her newfound career. While she grows closer to Raj during the shoot, Munna repeatedly struggles to confess his feelings, often held back by his insecurities and circumstances. Eventually, believing Raj is better suited for her, Munna quietly decides to step away from her life.
On the night of the film’s premiere, Mili discovers a heartfelt letter from Munna, revealing his love and intention to leave town. Realizing her true feelings, Mili rushes out of the event in search of him. Raj, initially upset, is shocked when Mili tearfully confesses she loves Munna and can’t live without him. Understanding the depth of their bond, Raj graciously steps back and helps reunite them.
Mili and Raj find Munna just in time, and after clearing all misunderstandings, Mili and Munna finally embrace, affirming their love for each other.
