Achyut Potdar (born 22 August 1934), sometimes simply known as Achyut, is an Indian actor who has performed in over 125 Bollywood films. In addition to film, Potdar has appeared in 95 serials, 26 plays and 45 adverts.
He was born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, into a Marathi Brahmin family. Achyut Potdar was born and raised in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and graduated in 1961 with a first-place economics major and a university medal. After graduating from college, he taught at Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, before enlisting in the Indian Army, where he resigned in 1967 as a captain. Later, he spent almost 25 years as an executive at Indian Oil before retiring in 1992 at the age of 58.
While employed at Indian Oil, Potdar would host their cultural activities and take part in plays and theatrical productions. Known for his character parts in Bollywood, he joined the profession at the age of 44 after years in the corporate world and an army experience. Potdar treated acting as a serious hobby; he only took on roles that were offered to him. In Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s films, he is essentially a set character.
Dabangg 2, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, and 3 Idiots are some of his most recent motion pictures. He recently portrayed a character in Sony Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.’s serial Amita Ka Amit. In addition, Potdar played the role of Aaj Tak in Aandolan and Jayaprakash Narayan in the television serial Pradhanmantri.
