Pennum Porattum

Story:

Pennum Porattum, which translates to “Girl and the Fools Parade,” is a satirical comedy-drama film in Malayalam that was written by P. T. Ravi Sankar and directed by Rajesh Madhavan in his first feature film. The film, which was produced by Santhosh T. Kuruvilla under the name STK Frames, has a cast of more than 100 performers, the majority of whom are newbies from the Palakkad villages where it was filmed. The title alludes to porattu, a type of satirical folk theater that is regularly presented in Kerala’s Palakkad district. Critics gave the movie favorable reviews when it was released on February 13, 2026.

A private conversation between a young woman named Charulatha (Raina Radhakrishnan) and Kumar (Dinesh Pe Po) is overheard and shared on community WhatsApp groups. The village goes into a moral frenzy to shame her. The story takes place in the fictional village of Pattada, where residents gave up arms decades ago to mediate peace. At the same time, Baburaj’s pet dog Suttu breaks free from his cage and is mistakenly accused of being rabid, which leads to a parallel mob chase. The video alternates between these two hunts—one aimed at a woman’s dignity and the other at an innocent animal—using the increasing mayhem to highlight the villagers’ hypocrisy and stupidity. Tovino Thomas’s internal monologue presents parts of the story from Suttu’s perspective.  The movie examines topics of moral policing, mob mentality, and the contrast between human hypocrisy and animal innocence.
