TheatreIn 2013, Okkadine graced Telugu screens, a romantic thriller directed by Srinivas Raga and produced by C. V. Reddy. Nara Rohit and Nithya Menon brought the film to life with their captivating performances. The story, originally told in Telugu, crossed language barriers through dubbings in Hindi as Aur Ek Dushman and Malayalam as Kanalattam.
Sailaja, pampered daughter of a revered philanthropist, arrives from the US only to find her father embarking on politics. While he’s abroad, she plans a trip with an online friend. Their cafe meeting is interrupted by a brutal cop abusing a pregnant woman. Sailaja’s fiery outburst coincides with a sniper’s bullet silencing the cop, marking the enigmatic entry of a mysterious stranger. Intrigue boils as Sailaja embarks on her journey, unaware of the web she’s just entangled.
Sailaja and Sujatha reach Vizag, meeting Sujatha’s uncle, affectionately known as Sreenu Mama. Their plans for sightseeing take an unexpected turn when Sujatha abruptly decides to return home. Left alone, Sailaja explores a forest, encountering a girl in a tiger mask. The girl leads her into a trap, but a masked man, revealed as the earlier shooter, rescues her. Grateful, Sailaja accompanies him to a warm joint family home.
Sailaja, captivated by the familial love, shares her own loss, bonding with the man, Surya, who helped her. Witnessing the MLA’s brutality, Sailaja, restrained by Sreenu Mama, experiences a shocking explosion that claims the MLA’s life. Surya and his family console her during this tumultuous time.
In a forest temple, Surya reveals the power of a lit diya to fulfill wishes. Sailaja expresses her desire to be a part of Surya’s family and wishes to reunite with her father in the next life. Surya reciprocates with a proposal, but Sailaja reveals her imminent departure. Surya’s family promises a heartfelt farewell. Sailaja, reaching out to her father, joyfully announces her love, anticipating a future discussion.
Sailaja attends a biennial fair in search of Surya and his family. When she inquires with Sreenu Mama, everyone reacts with shock and fear. Confused, Sailaja learns that Surya’s family has been deceased for two years. Rushing to their home, now in ruins, she faints from the overwhelming revelation. Upon waking, she contacts her father, prompting an investigative team’s dispatch. Calmed by Sreenu Mama, Sailaja encounters a TV crew, but Sreenu Mama dismisses them. The investigation unveils a manipulated narrative, with Surya orchestrating Sailaja’s arrival.
Surya reveals the tragic backstory involving his sister’s love, leading to a massacre during an engagement preparation. Sailaja slaps Surya upon witnessing his betrayal, prompting him to confess the elaborate ruse.
The next day, Surya returns to discover his family murdered, and the local MLA blames the police. Authorities claim to have caught the alleged psycho responsible. While exploring his home, Surya finds a camera exposing the true killer as Sivaji Rao’s driver. Confronting the driver, a lethal clash ensues, with Surya killing him and revealing the shocking truth to Sreenu Mama – the driver was sent by Sivaji Rao.
In the unfolding flashback, Sailaja grapples with the unsettling reality that her seemingly benevolent father orchestrated the family’s demise for political gains. Surya confesses his motive for luring Sailaja, aiming to expose her father’s crimes. Amidst a twist of shared love, the makeshift family plans their revenge, captured by Sensational Sodhan, who unveils the incriminating evidence to Sailaja.
Crestfallen at his deceased uncle, Surya erupts in fury, attacking Sivaji Rao openly. In broad daylight, he eliminates all of Rao’s henchmen and confronts him at gunpoint, just as the police arrive. Threatened by law enforcement, the press questions Surya’s motives, portraying Rao as a good man. Surya dispels the illusion, revealing Rao’s ruthless nature and the murder of his own family. Sailaja intervenes, stopping Surya.
Despite Rao’s attempts to manipulate her, Sailaja asserts the truth, presenting evidence. Surya relinquishes his weapon, but chaos ensues when Rao’s henchman attempts to shoot Surya, leading to his demise by police gunfire.
In the climactic moment, Rao seizes a gun, holding a policeman hostage and targeting Surya. Sailaja bravely shields him, asserting Rao’s deserving fate. In a twist, Rao’s demise occurs inadvertently, the film concluding with Surya and Sailaja locked in a poignant embrace.
