His father, Viruman, found out that his mother, Chitra, was having an affair, shattering Chelladurai’s life. After catching them red-handed, Chitra left her family behind. After taking his teenage son and daughter to their grandmother’s home, Viruman left them in her care. When their grandma died, tragedy struck once more, leaving young Chelladurai to take care of his younger sister, Sudha Maheshwari “Sudha,” and make a living. He was fortunate to be hired as a watchman on the same chicken farm by Periyasamy, a villager, who assisted to assure their survival.
After twelve years, Chelladurai is currently employed as a butcher at Periyasamy’s market-side chicken shop. Senthamaraiselvi “Thamarai” has a pottery store in the same market and secretly nurtures affections for Chelladurai. He doesn’t, however, return her love. In order to pay for Sudha’s wedding, build an independent chicken farm, and buy a house, Chelladurai takes on more menial occupations to augment his income.
In private, Sudha develops feelings for Soundar, the son of Mohan, the college librarian. Soundar barely escapes when Chelladurai brutally confronts him after learning of their friendship. Chelladurai snaps at Sudha out of wrath. He looks for a decent groom because he is determined to marry her off, but after confirming Soundar’s family history, he welcomes him.
Chelladurai meets his mother, Chitra, who has become a beggar due to memory loss, when they are getting ready for the wedding. She is committed to a mental institution by Chelladurai, who also makes arrangements for Sudha to meet their mother following her marriage to Soundar. According to Sudha, Thamarai cannot remain single indefinitely and is encouraged to wed Chelladurai. Chelladurai once tells Periyasamy that he saved his mother just out of compassion and not love.
Later, a young girl takes him to see his sick father, Viruman, and introduces herself as Maheshwari, his half-sister. Despite being horrified to see Viruman in such a miserable condition, Chelladurai is inspired by Maheshwari’s request and saves Viruman’s life by donating one of his kidneys. He is shown taking care of his mother after forgiving her for her previous wrongdoings and ultimately accepting Thamarai’s love.
