“Kavacham,” a 2018 Indian Telugu-language action thriller film, marks the directorial debut of Sreenivas Mamilla. The ensemble cast features Bellamkonda Sreenivas, Neil Nitin Mukesh in his Telugu debut, Kajal Aggarwal, Mehreen Pirzada, and Harshvardhan Rane. Set in Vizag, the narrative follows a police officer who becomes a fugitive after being wrongly accused of a kidnapping.
The film explores his race against time to clear his name and apprehend the real culprit. Despite its release on December 7, 2018, “Kavacham” faced commercial failure, later being dubbed in Hindi as “Inspector Vijay” in 2019. Inspector Vijay (Bellamkonda Sreenivas) comes to the aid of Lavanya (Mehreen Pirzada), saving her from assailants and discovering her intention to elope with her boyfriend.
As they await her boyfriend, Vijay shares his own love story involving Samyukta (Kajal Aggarwal), a café waitress. Simultaneously, he recalls apprehending a criminal named Ajay Bhupati for a kidnapping case. In his personal life, Vijay experiences heartbreak upon learning of Samyukta’s engagement. When Lavanya’s boyfriend fails to appear, Vijay shelters her at his home.
Uncovering her boyfriend’s betrayal the next morning, Vijay accompanies her to a bus stop, where they witness a tragic accident involving Vijay’s mother. The ensuing hospitalization demands a hefty sum of 50 lakh rupees. Lavanya, revealed as billionaire Mahendra Varma’s niece, proposes a plan: a fake kidnapping to secure the ransom and ensure familial acceptance.
Vijay executes the plan cleverly, saving his mother’s life. However, Vijay soon discovers that he has been framed for kidnapping the actual niece, Samyukta. Ajay Bhupathi calls to declare the end of Vijay’s game, leading to a shocking revelation that Ajay is not the kidnapper, and the girl Vijay saved is now dead. Chased by the police, Vijay is rescued by Vaishnavi (Apoorva Srinivasan), Samyukta’s friend, revealing Samyukta’s true feelings for Vijay.
As Vijay investigates Samyukta’s kidnapping, he traces the kidnapper, Aravindh, and connects him to a series of events. Vikramaditya Varma (Neil Nitin Mukesh), Mahendra’s son, emerges as the mastermind behind framing Vijay. Vikramaditya’s motive stems from resentment towards Samyukta, chosen as the company heir over him.
Vijay unveils the conspiracy, exposing Vikramaditya’s elaborate plan to eliminate Samyukta and frame Vijay. The climax sees Vijay confronting Vikramaditya, who discloses the sinister plot. Samyukta and Vijay, with the help of the police, thwart Vikramaditya’s plans, rescuing Vijay’s mother and bringing Vikramaditya to justice.
The end credits reveal Samyukta as the rightful heir of S. company, expressing her love for Vijay. “Kavacham” weaves a gripping tale of suspense, betrayal, and redemption, with Inspector Vijay navigating a complex web of deceit to clear his name and expose the true culprits.
