Story:

Chandoo Mondeti is the writer and director of the 2014 Telugu-language mystery thriller Karthikeya in India. In significant parts in the movie are Nikhil Siddhartha, Swati Reddy, Tanikella Bharani, Rao Ramesh, and Jayaprakash. Savitru Karthikeyan, a student at iiitB, produced the movie under the Magnus Cine Prime name. Karthik Ghattamaneni was the film’s cinematographer, and Karthika Srinivas was its editor. Shekar Chandra wrote the soundtrack for the movie. The movie centers on a shuttered Karthikeya temple in the Subrahmanyapuram village and follows the life of an inquisitive doctor named Karthik as he looks into the temple’s mysteries.

Chandoo Mondeti was inspired to write the story of Karthikeya by an incident that took place in the Talupulamma Temple in the Kakinada region of Andhra Pradesh. The movie’s premiere took place in Hyderabad on June 10, 2013, and principal photography started on July 5 and ran through February 21, 2014. It was filmed at Visakhapatnam, Araku, and Samarlakota, Andhra Pradesh, at the Kumararama temple. The majority of the movie, including Kumbakonam, was filmed in Tamil Nadu. Following a few delays, the movie received favorable reviews from reviewers when it debuted on October 24, 2014, during Diwali, and made over ₹20 crore on a ₹4-6 crore budget.

At the 62nd Filmfare Awards South, the film was nominated in four categories. At the 4th South Indian International Movie Awards, the film received one win out of four nominations. Following the film’s success, a sequel titled, Karthikeya 2, was announced by Mondeti in late 2019 and released on 13 August 2022.
