Theatre“Godfather” is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language action-drama film directed by cinematographer-turned-director Sethu Sriram. The movie features Upendra in a triple role, portraying a father and his two sons, with Soundarya Jayamala and Catherine Tresa in supporting roles. The film’s soundtrack and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman.
This Kannada film is a remake of the 2006 Tamil hit “Varalaru,” which starred Ajith Kumar, Asin Thottumkal, and Kanika Subramaniam. A. R. Rahman, who composed music for the original Tamil version, also composed the songs for this film, with all except one being reused from the original. The background score was handled by Rajesh Ramanath.
Released on 27 July 2012, “Godfather” received highly positive reviews from critics. Upendra’s outstanding performance, especially in the roles of a Bharatha Natyam dancer and an elderly man confined to a wheelchair, was praised and is regarded as one of the best performances of his career. The film achieved moderate success at the box office, eventually being declared a “blockbuster.”
