Theatre“Dil Jo Bhi Kahey…” is a 2005 Indian romantic drama film directed by Romesh Sharma. Set against the backdrop of Mauritius, the film revolves around the Sinha family—Shekhar, his wife Sandhaya, and their son Jai. Jai travels to Stockholm, Sweden, for culinary studies and crosses paths with Sophie Besson, a Roman Catholic Franco-Mauritian. As their meetings become more frequent, a love story unfolds. However, their relationship faces challenges when Jai introduces Sophie to his parents and Sophie’s parents, leading to disapproval from various quarters due to differences in ethnicity and religious faith.
The plot takes a turn when Jai, engaged to Gayatri Pandey as per his mother’s wishes, fails to show up for his elopement with Sophie. The complications escalate when Gayatri discovers Jai and Sophie’s past love and devises a plan involving a false pregnancy to ensure acceptance from both families.
The film concludes with a twist as Gayatri leaves Mauritius, adding a poignant note to the complex love story of Jai and Sophie. “Dil Jo Bhi Kahey…” explores themes of love, family, and societal expectations, weaving a narrative that resonates with emotions and cultural nuances.
