Story:

Dhoom is a Hindi action thriller directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. It marks the debut installment of the Dhoom franchise and features Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Esha Deol, and Rimi Sen. The story, penned by Vijay Krishna Acharya, unfolds against the cinematographic backdrop of Mumbai, skillfully captured by Nirav Shah, and edited by Rameshwar S. Bhagat. The music was orchestrated by Pritam, with Salim–Sulaiman providing the score.

This action-packed narrative introduces Kabir (John Abraham) leading a gang of motorcycle-mounted robbers wreaking havoc in Mumbai. Their exploits bring them into the crosshairs of determined cop Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and motorbike dealer Ali Akbar Fateh Khan (Uday Chopra), tasked with halting Kabir’s criminal spree.

Upon its release on August 27, 2004, “Dhoom” garnered varied reviews from critics, applauded for its performances, adrenaline-pumping action sequences, and soundtrack, but critiqued for its storyline, drawing unfavorable comparisons to Hollywood franchises like Fast and Furious and Ocean’s. Nevertheless, it emerged as a commercial hit, grossing over ₹290 million in India and ranking as the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2004. Over time, it attained cult status.

The film earned six nominations at the 50th Filmfare Awards, including Best Film and Best Villain (John Abraham), securing wins for Best Editing and Best Sound Design.

Its success spawned a sequel series, with “Dhoom 2” and “Dhoom 3” continuing the exploits of Jai Dixit and Ali Akbar Khan, played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra respectively.
