TheatreBeast is a 2022 Indian Tamil action comedy movie written and directed by Nelson. The film features Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Selvaraghavan in prominent roles. The story centers around a former RAW agent who embarks on a mission to rescue hostages held by terrorists in a shopping mall.
Initially, the production rights for Vijay’s 65th film were acquired by Sun Pictures with AR Murugadoss as the director in January 2020. However, due to a disagreement over compensation, Murugadoss was replaced in October 2020, and Nelson was brought on board to rewrite the screenplay, resulting in the creation of Beast. Filming took place between April and December 2021 in Chennai, Delhi, and Georgia, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music, Manoj Paramahamsa handling cinematography, R. Nirmal editing, and D. R. Kiran overseeing production design.
Beast hit theaters on April 13, 2022, receiving a mixed response from critics. Nevertheless, the film achieved commercial success, grossing ₹210–250.05 crore worldwide.
