“Devara“, is a film featuring Jr NTR and directed by Koratala Siva. This marks NTR’s first solo film in six years and comes after the success of the blockbuster RRR, so expectations are high. The released songs and trailers have resonated well with the audience.
The story of Devara is set against a coastal backdrop, focusing on the lives of fishermen and their adventures, with exciting underwater sequences as highlights. However, this isn’t the first film to explore this theme. Many movies in the past have been set in coastal settings.

1. Aradhana
The movie features Chiranjeevi, Suhasini, and Rajasekhar and was released in 1987, directed by Bharathiraja and produced by Allu Aravind. In this film, Chiranjeevi plays the role of a fisherman. While all the songs in the movie are well-received.
2. Subha Sankalpam
This movie, starring Kamal Haasan and Aamani, was released in 1995 and directed by K. Vishwanath. In the film, Kamal Haasan plays a fisherman. The songs, composed by MM Keeravani, are enjoyable, and the movie performed well at the box office.
3. Samudhram
This movie, featuring Jagapathi Babu and Sakshi Shivanand, was released in 1999 and directed by Krishna Vamsi. Set against a coastal backdrop, the film is entertaining but ended up with average results at the box office.
4. Chatrapathi
This was the first movie featuring the collaboration of Pan India star Prabhas and director SS Rajamouli. Released in 2005, the film is set against a coastal backdrop and became a huge success at the box office.
Aadhi Pinisetty, Sundeep Kishan, Taapsee Pannu, and Manchu Lakshmi are the lead actors in this movie directed by Kumar Nagendra. Released in 2013, it is set against a coastal backdrop and features good songs composed by Ilayaraja. However, the film was a disaster at the box office.
6. Uppena
Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty made their debut as the lead actors in this movie, which was released to audiences in 2021. Set against a coastal backdrop, the film has a very “raw” feel to it. It turned out to be a big blockbuster at the box office.
Starring Sharwanand, Siddharth, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Anu Emmanuel in lead roles, this movie, directed by Ajay Bhupathi, is also set against a coastal backdrop. Released in 2021, it unfortunately turned out to be a disaster.
Megastar Chiranjeevi and director Bobby teamed up for this film set against a coastal backdrop. Released as a Sankranti gift, the movie became a major blockbuster.
9. Devara
NTR and Koratala Siva‘s ‘Devara‘, set to hit the screens within few hours, is another film with a coastal backdrop. It boasts plenty of mass elements, and we’re eager to see what kind of impact it will have.
10. Thandel
Naga Chaitanya‘s upcoming film, directed by Chandoo Mondeti, will also be set against a coastal backdrop. In this movie, Naga Chaitanya will portray the character of Fisherman Thandel Raj. The film is set to be released soon.
