Varun Sharma, born on February 4, 1990, is an Indian actor and comedian renowned for his role as “Choocha” in the Fukrey film series. He is recognized for his comedic and supporting performances in various Hindi and Punjabi films.
Sharma completed his education at The Lawrence School in Sanawar, later transferring to Apeejay School in Jalandhar for Class 11 and 12. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Media, Entertainment, and Film Technology from ITFT Chandigarh.
In 2013, Sharma made his Bollywood debut in the comedy-drama Fukrey, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, which proved to be a commercial success, earning ₹49 crore (US$8.9 million) worldwide.
His 2015 ventures included Abhishek Dogra’s comedy Dolly Ki Doli and the successful romantic comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, co-starring Kapil Sharma. The same year, he featured in Rohit Shetty’s action romance Dilwale alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, Kajol, and Kriti Sanon, marking his highest-grossing release with over ₹4 billion (US$50 million) worldwide.
Sharma’s subsequent works include the reincarnation romance Raabta (2017), Fukrey Returns (2017), FryDay (2018) alongside Govinda, Arjun Patiala (2019) with Sanon and Diljit Dosanjh, Khandaani Shafakhana (2019) with Sonakshi Sinha and Badshah, and Chhichhore (2019) alongside Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor.
In 2020, Varun Sharma took on the role of the host for the comedy show “Sab Se Funny Kaun” on Flipkart Video, an OTT video streaming platform owned by Flipkart.
His subsequent film, Roohi (2021), directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan, features Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor. Notably, the end credits of Roohi acknowledge Varun Sharma’s manager, the late Disha Salian, who managed him during the film’s production.
