Born on September 17, 1943, Tikkavarapu Subbarami Reddy is an Indian philanthropist, politician, film producer, and industrialist. He created the Sanskrit film Bhagavad Gita in 1993, which won the 40th National Film Awards’ Best Feature Film title.
He is an Indian National Congress member. Since 1996, he has served as a member of the Indian Parliament, representing the state of Andhra Pradesh in both the lower house (the Lok Sabha) and the upper house (the Rajya Sabha). He was twice elected from the Visakhapatnam seat to the 11th and 12th Lok Sabha in 1996 and 1998. In 2002, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha and served a third term in that capacity.
He served on a number of parliamentary committees. From 2006 until 2008, he served as the Ministry of Mines’ Minister of State. He was defeated by Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy in the Nellore constituency election on June 15, 2012.
In Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, he was born to T. Babu Reddy and Rukmini Amma. He completed his B.Sc. in physics at Hyderabad’s Nizam College. This T. Ramana Reddy is his uncle. T. Pattabhirama Reddy, a filmmaker, is also connected to him.
The chairperson of the company he formed, Gayatri Projects Ltd., is his wife, T. Indira Subbarami Reddy.
