Sudha Rani, born Jayashree, is an Indian actress, voice artist, and former model, primarily known for her work in Kannada films. Born into a conservative Brahmin family to H. S. Gopalakrishna and Nagalakshmi, Sudha Rani spent her early years in the Malleswaram suburb of Bengaluru. As a child artist, she made her debut at the age of three in the film “Kiladi Kittu” (1978) and continued to act in movies like “Kulla Kulli” (1980), “Anupama” (1981), “Bhagyavantha,” and “Ranganayaki” (1981).
She debuted as a lead actress at the age of 13 in the film “Anand” (1986). Over her career, Sudha Rani has acted in about 150 films, not only in Kannada but also in Telugu, Tulu, and Malayalam. She received acclaim for her performances and has won Filmfare Awards and Karnataka State Film Awards twice for her roles in “Panchama Veda” (1990) and “Mysore Mallige” (1992).
Sudha Rani’s film journey began when she faced the camera for a Kwality Biscuits advertisement at the age of two-and-a-half. Her uncle, the renowned film personality Chi. Udaya Shankar, played a significant role in her early exposure to the film industry. Sudha Rani received education at St. Thomas School in Malleswaram and Seshadripura branches. She developed a passion for reading during her childhood.
