For P. Madhavan’s 1974 film Murugan Kaattiya Vazhi, she appeared in front of the camera for the first time. She then appeared in films alongside people like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Sivaji Ganesan, and Jaishankar.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Sripriya had a run of popular films. She portrayed Manju, the main character, in C Rudraiya’s 1977 film Aval Appadithan, which earned her a Tamil Nadu State Award that year. Aattukara Alamelu, Billa, and Annai Oru Alayam are some of her other top songs.
She served on the State Awards committee as well as the National Awards committee jury.
She played the lead role in several of Rajinikanth’s movies. She continued acting alongside Rajinikanth in 28 movies. Second only to Sridevi, who has worked with Kamal Haasan on more than 30 occasions, she has also appeared in a number of films with him. Additionally, she appeared in a number of movies with Kamal and Rajini. Illamai Oonjaladukirathu, Aadu Puli Aatam, Alladinum Arputha Vilakkakum, Aval Appadithen, and Natchathiram are among the movies on this list.
She began acting in films in 1973 and has since appeared in almost 300 movies in all four South Indian languages, including more than 200 in Tamil.
Sripriya began directing films after she finished her performing career. Shanti Muhurtam, a 1984 Tamil film, served as her debut as a filmmaker. She took on the subject of sexual assaults against women when she directed the movie Malini 22 Palayamkottai. She claimed that “making this film is my way of registering anger” in an interview with the Indian Express.
Additionally, she has helmed television series. She had directed five serials by the year 2007, with Viduthalai being her favorite. She has directed five movies: Drushyam, a Telugu film starring Venkatesh, Meena, and Nadiya Moidu, two in Tamil, two in Kannada, and one in the latter language.
As a visual artist, Sripriya also donates the revenues from her paintings to philanthropic organizations, primarily those that support children.
