Singanamala Ramesh, also known as Singanamala Ramesh Babu, is an Indian film producer who operates within the Telugu film industry under the banner of Sri Kanakaratna Movies Pvt. Ltd, a company he founded. His career has been marked by controversy, including allegations of extortion and fraud. He is commonly referred to as S. Ramesh Babu and has played a significant role in producing several movies, including “Veeda,” “Khaleja,” and “Maa Annayya.”
“Maa Annayya,” released in 2000, was his inaugural production and featured Dr. Rajashekhar, receiving favorable audience reception and achieving respectable box office earnings. In 2003, he produced “Veede,” an action romance film adapted from the Tamil movie “Shool” released in 2002. “Veede” marked his second collaboration with director Ravi Raja Pinisetty. During the same year, he ventured into Tamil cinema with “Ramachandra,” which received recognition for the best male playback at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards but failed to make a significant impact due to its violent content and clichéd storyline. Subsequently, Singanamala released “Janaki Weds Sriram” and “Villan,” both of which failed to leave a lasting impression on audiences.
In 2005, director P. Vasu expressed his desire to work with superstar Rajnikanth again but opted for Ajith Kumar due to prior commitments. Singanamala stepped in to finance the project, resulting in the creation of the Tamil film “Paramasivan.” He also participated in other projects such as the Tamil films “Nam Naadu” and “Pokkiri” in 2007. In 2010, he produced “Khaleja,” a Telugu film featuring Mahesh Babu, which marked a comeback for the actor after a four-year hiatus. Although it showcased Mahesh’s strong presence, the movie did not meet blockbuster expectations.
Following this, Singanamala’s career took a turbulent turn. In 2011, he was arrested by the CID in connection with the murder case of gangster Maddelacheruvu Suri. He was also booked for cheating and brought to the Chennai Local Court. His close association with the victim and the accused led him to resort to blackmailing in an attempt to recover losses incurred from his film ventures. Consequently, he faced judicial remand. Notably, both of his sons have ventured into acting.
