Sujith Vasudevan I, professionally known as Sharreth, is a renowned Indian music director and singer. He is primarily recognized for his contributions to Malayalam cinema, where he composes film scores and songs. However, his talent extends to other Indian film industries, including Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. Sharreth’s remarkable work in the field earned him several accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 2008 and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director in 2011 for the film “Ivan Megharoopan.” He also holds the distinction of being the first recipient of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Classical Music Singer for his song “Bhavayami” in the film “Meghatheertham.” Additionally, he is related to the renowned music director Kannur Rajan as his son-in-law.
Sharreth, born in Kollam, Kerala, India, is a disciple of the esteemed carnatic music virtuoso M. Balamuralikrishna. His journey in the music industry began when he made his debut as a film composer in 1990 with the Malayalam film “Kshanakkathu.” Before stepping into the role of a composer, Sharreth had a sporadic presence as a playback singer for films. He lent his voice for the first time in the song “Dum dum dum,” a duet with K. S. Chithra for the Malayalam film “Onningu Vannengil” in 1985.
On a personal note, Sharreth is married to Seetha Rajan, the daughter of the renowned Kannur Rajan, and they have a daughter named Diya, born in 2006. Sharreth has also been actively involved as a judge in various musical reality shows on television, including “Idea Star Singer,” “Super Star – the Ultimate,” “Gandharava Sangeetham,” and “Indian Voice.” In 2014, his memoir titled “Aathmaraagam,” written by Sanjeev Pillai, was published by Litmus Publications, an imprint of DC Books. Presently, he serves as one of the permanent judges on the television show “Star Singer,” hosted by Asianet from 2020, alongside other prominent figures in the music industry.
