Ameer Sultan is an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor who works in the Tamil cinema industry. He was born on December 5, 1967.
Tamil Nadu, India’s Madurai is the birthplace of Ameer Sultan. After completing his studies in economics and working as an entrepreneur, he began assisting Tamil director Bala on his critically acclaimed films Sethu (1999) and Nandha (2001). Not too long later, he directed Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002), a romantic comedy, for his feature debut.
Suriya played the lead in the movie, which also marked Trisha Krishnan’s first major role release. He founded Teamwork Production House, his own production firm, in the same year.
The mystery thriller Raam, which he also produced, was his second directing effort. In 2005, three years later, it was made available.
The film won awards at the 2005 Cyprus International Film Festival, and Jeeva and Yuvan Shankar Raja, who composed the music, also won. It centers on an autistic teenager played by Jiiva, who is very devoted to his mother but is suspected of killing her.
The film received positive reviews from critics. Additionally, it was Jeeva’s first successful movie in the industry; up until that point, she had only made two bad appearances in independent projects.
Karthi, the younger son of Sivakumar and brother of Suriya, made his screen debut in the 2007 drama Paruthiveeran, which was set in a Tamil Nadu village. Karthi was directed by Suriya’s brother. Both Priyamani, who played the female lead, and Karthi took home a number of important awards for their roles. With six Filmfare Awards South, including Best Film and Best Director, two National Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and four Vijay Awards, Paruthiveeran continues to be Ameer’s most appreciated film.
The movie has received praise on a global scale, taking home the Netpac Special Mention award at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Best Film Award at the Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. Aadhi Bhagavan, his fourth film, starring Jayam Ravi and Neetu Chandra, was released in 2013 to a mediocre reception.
