Sankalp Reddy, born on October 20, 1984, is an Indian film director and screenwriter primarily active in Telugu cinema. Hailing from Hyderabad, Reddy completed his graduation from CVR College of Engineering and pursued an MBA at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. However, he opted to drop out after a semester and enrolled in Griffith Film School, a prestigious creative arts institution in Australia, to pursue an MFA in film direction.
Motivated by a year-long research on submarines, Reddy decided to create a film centered on this subject. To secure the copyrights, he authored a book titled “The Blue Fish.” This endeavor eventually led to his directorial debut with the Pan-Indian war film “Ghazi” (2017), inspired by true events from the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. The film depicts the courage and patriotism of the men aboard the Indian Submarine INS Karanj (S21), which successfully thwarted the Pakistani PNS Ghazi’s attempt to destroy INS Vikrant. “Ghazi” was screened at the Jagran Film Festival and received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 65th National Film Awards in 2018.
In 2018, Sankalp Reddy continued his directorial journey with the space thriller film “Antariksham 9000 KMPH,” featuring Varun Tej in the lead role.
