Author Romain Puértolas was born in France in 1975. His best-selling French book, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, has been translated into English and sold in 36 countries, making it his most well-known work.[1] By August 2014, this book had sold over 100,000 copies in France and was number one on bestseller lists there.
December 21, 1975, saw the birth of Romain Puertolas in Montpellier, a city in southern France. His mother, a French army administrator, and father, a colonel in the Spanish Army, are the only parents of him.
In Madrid, Spain, he worked as an airport controller. At the age of 33, Puertolas joined the French police force and worked as a border guard. He was an expert in investigating document fraud in French networks of illegal immigration while serving as a police officer. He left his position as a police officer in December 2014 to focus on writing more novels following the success of his debut.
A series of movies that Puertolas made in 2008 with the intention of “debunking magicians, illusionists, and fakirs” were uploaded to a number of websites, including YouTube, Dailymotion, and others.
Stage magician David Copperfield, one of the many illusionists whose acts were supposedly “debunked,” took exception at these films and had Puertolas’ YouTube account removed. Together with his friend Skeptic Munoz, a Spanish engineer, “Grand” Puertolas produced these about sixty “Trickbusters Show” videos. In 2010 saw Puértolas wed Andalusian pediatrician Patricia Sierra Gutierrez from Spain.They are parents to two kids.
