Sumathi is an Indian actress originally from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, who embarked on her career at a remarkably young age of two. Her entry into the film industry began as a child artist in Tamil cinema during the late 60s. She appeared in various children’s movies and played diverse roles, including portraying a boy in some films. As she grew older, Sumathi transitioned into Telugu and Malayalam films, where she garnered a substantial body of work.
Born into a family deeply connected to the film industry, Sumathi’s elder brother, Master Prabhakar, was the first to venture into acting. She moved in with her aunt in 1966 to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
