Ram Subramaniam

Biography:

Ram is an actor and director from India who works in Tamil films. He worked under Balu Mahendra and assisted Hindi director Rajkumar Santoshi before making his directorial debut with Kattradhu Thamizh (2007), which received high praise from critics. In addition to receiving positive reviews, his second movie, Thanga Meengal (2013), took home three National Film Awards. His next movie, Taramani, was highly acclaimed when it was released in August 2017 and went on to become a box office hit—possibly the biggest commercial success of his career.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam hosted the world premieres of his next three films: Paranthu Po (2025), Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai (2024), and Peranbu (2018). Ram is a significant character in Tamil cinema because of his distinctive approaches to art, craft, and philosophy. He also mentors a new generation of filmmakers like Mari Selvaraj and S. U. Arun Kumar.
