Salim Abdul Rashid Khan, an Indian actor, playwright, and producer, was born on November 24, 1935. He wrote the stories, plots, and screenplays for many Bollywood movies. Along with Javed Akhtar, Khan makes up the successful screenwriting team Salim-Javed. The pair was among the first Indian screenwriters to become well-known in Hindi film, and they went on to become the most prosperous Indian screenwriters ever.Together, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were mostly in charge of creating the stories and characters, while Javed Akhtar was in charge of creating the dialogue.
Salim-Javed transformed and reinvented the Bollywood formula in the 1970s, creating the Bollywood blockbuster format as well as genres like the masala film and the Dacoit Western. Salim Khan was also one of those in charge of developing Amitabh Bachchan’s “angry young man” archetype. Their movies rank among the highest-grossing Indian movies of all time, including the Don series, Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Zanjeer (1973), Deewaar (1975), and Sholay (1975), the highest-grossing Indian movie of all time at the time. The movie Sholay is regarded as one of the best Indian movies of all time.
As the patriarch of the Salim Khan family, Salman Khan (one of the “big three Khans of Bollywood”), Sohail Khan, and Arbaaz Khan, as well as movie producer Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Khan is also well-known. Both the actress Helen Richardson Khan and Sushila Charak, also known as Salma Khan, are his wives. As a member of Salim-Javed, Salim Khan won six Filmfare Awards, and in 2014, he received the Padma Shri.
After separating from Javed, Salim Khan penned the dialogue and storyline for hit films including Angaaray (1986), Naam (1986), Kabzaa (1988), and Jurm (1990). Rajesh Khanna urged director Rajesh Sethi to revisit the script he had for the movie Angaaray with Salim Khan.
Since the films Salim wrote, including Akayla, Toofan, and others between 1988 and 1996, flopped, he was less involved in the film industry after 1996. After he parted with Javed Akhthar in 1983, he authored the scripts for thirteen movies between that year and 1996. Among them were Majdhaar and the popular movie Patthar Ke Phool, in which his son Salman Khan acted. The scripts for Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Auzaar, both of which were produced by his youngest son Sohail Khan, were also major successes.
