Mahesh Kathi

Biography:

Mahesh Kathi, who lived from around 1977/8 to July 10, 2021, was a notable figure in Telugu cinema, known for his roles as a film critic and actor. He gained recognition through his participation in the Telugu reality TV series, Bigg Boss.

Kathi Mahesh Kumar was born in Yellamanda, a village situated in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. He hailed from a Dalit family and was a member of the Madiga community. His educational journey took him to the AP Residential School in Gyarampalle, near Piler. Later, he pursued a Master’s degree in Communication at Hyderabad Central University from 1998 to 2000.

Mahesh embarked on his career in the world of cinema with “Edari Varsham,” a film based on Devarakonda Balagangadhara Tilak’s story, “Vuri Chivara Illu.” He co-wrote the acclaimed film “Minugurulu,” which holds the distinction of being the “first Telugu script to be preserved in the Oscar Library’s permanent core collection” and was the initial Telugu film to be considered for the Academy Awards’ best feature film category in 2014.

Additionally, Mahesh played minor roles in Telugu movies such as “Hrudaya Kaleyam” (2014), “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” (2017), and “Kobbari Matta” (2019).

In 2017, he participated in the inaugural season of the Telugu reality show, Bigg Boss, which was hosted by Jr. NTR and aired on Star Maa.

His final film project, “Egise Tarajuvvualu,” highlighted the importance of fostering a scientific mindset among children, advocating for scientific education and thinking.

Kathi Mahesh Kumar’s multifaceted contributions to Telugu cinema, spanning from film criticism to acting, left a mark in the industry before his untimely passing in July 2021.
