Madhur Bhandarkar is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer who was born on August 26, 1968. The Indian government awarded Bhandarkar the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, in 2016.
He is best known for directing the critically acclaimed crime drama Chandni Bar (2001), which earned him the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues. He also directed the dramas Page 3 (2005), Traffic Signal (2007), and Fashion (2008), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and the National Film Award for Best Direction. For the latter, he was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
Additionally, Bhandarkar co-produced Avijatrik (2021), a Bengali film that received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali and was based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s novel Aparajito. Additionally, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has nominated him to be a society member of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
