Actress Katheryn Winnick was born in Canada on December 17, 1977. In addition to her recurring part in the television series Bones (2010–2011), she is well-known for her starring roles in the television series Vikings (2013–2020), Wu Assassins (2019), and Big Sky (2020–2023). In addition, she starred in the following films: The Marksman (2021), Polar (2019), A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2012), Amusement (2008), Choose (2010), and The Art of the Steal (2013).
At the age of seven, she started martial arts training, and at thirteen, she earned her first black belt. She had opened three Taekwondo schools by the time she was 21. While pursuing her kinesiology degree at York University in Toronto, she instructed actors in Taekwondo and self-defence. Winnick attended the William Esper Studio and graduated from it.
As a young child, Winnick began performing at her Toronto community centre. She received a scholarship for drama and directing at Richview Collegiate Institute, and she had directed plays in high school.
