Josh Friedman is an American television producer and screenwriter who was born on February 14, 1967. In the science-fiction action genre, he is most recognized for his work on the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the movie version of War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells (2005), Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024). In addition, he co-authored the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) and the sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar film. He also penned the neo-noir murder mystery The Black Dahlia (2006).
The TNT series Snowpiercer, which is based on Bong Joon-ho’s film of the same name, is one of the television pilots that Friedman has created. Due to creative disagreements with the network, Friedman left the show in January 2018; Graeme Manson took his position. According to Friedman’s later claims, TNT put pressure on him to go because of a “radical difference in vision” and threatened to blacklist him if he didn’t cooperate. In solidarity with Friedman, pilot director Scott Derrickson declined to return for reshoots after he left. Friedman’s current project is Foundation, which is based on the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov.
