Jed Kurzel
Biography:
Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and film composer Jed Danyel Kurzel was born in 1976. He is a founding member of the blues rock duet The Mess Hall, which was formed in 2001. Justin Kurzel, his elder brother, works as a screenwriter and director. The Mess Hall, a Sydney-based blues-rock combo, was created in 2001 by Kurzel on lead vocals and guitar, Anthony Johnsen on drums, and a bass guitarist. The bass guitarist departed the group soon after, but they remained a duo. According to Kurzel, “When the clubs asked us where our bass player was, we used to lie and say he was sick.” In June 2003, their first album, The Mess Hall, was published. Cec Condon took Johnsen’s place on the drums and vocals in the beginning of 2004. Devils Elbow, their third album, was awarded the Australian Music Prize in October 2007.
