The Indian actor, producer, and former member of the Indian Air Force, Janardhanan Pillai (born May 5, 1946), also known as Janardhanan Nair, is mostly an actor in Malayalam films. In 1971, he starred in his first feature film, Adyathe Kadha, which was directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan. He has appeared in over 700 films. His career began when Malayalam movies were only available in black and white. He is well-known for his distinctive voice and approach to humor. Alongside Jayan and Prem Nazir, he began his career in the 1970s and early 1980s as a gruff villain and sub hero. Later, he became a highly sought-after comic.
His performance in the 1988 movie Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, which showcased his comedic abilities, marked a sea change in his career. But it wasn’t until the 1993 movie Meleparambil Aanveedu that he was typecast as a comedian. His well-known portrayal of Garvasis Aashan in Mannar Mathai Speaking (1995) is used by mimicry artists. He did, however, play serious parts like Jayashankar in Mafia and D.I.G. Marar in Dhruvam in addition to comedic ones. He stands out for playing a Sikh and a Jewish character in addition to the stereotypical Hindu, Muslim, and Christian characters.
