Iñaki Godoy

Biography:

Iñaki Godoy Jasso (born August 25, 2003) is a Mexican actor best recognized for portraying Juan Ruiz in The Imperfects (2022) and Monkey D. Luffy in Netflix’s live-action One Piece (2023–present).

He began his acting career in 2016 at just 13 years old, earning his first significant role in the Telemundo series La querida del Centauro, where he played Amadeo “El Gato.” He went on to take on smaller and supporting roles in shows like Blue Demon (2016), Por la Máscara: La Serie Web (2018), No Fear of Truth (2019), and Los elegidos (2019). At 14, he secured his first leading role in the film Go Youth! (2020), which was later nominated for Best Film at the 18th Morelia International Film Festival. He also appeared in MexZombies, showcased at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, and No Abras La Puerta. On television, he featured in the first two seasons of ¿Quién mató a Sara? and starred in his first English-language project, The Imperfects, both produced by Netflix.

In 2021, Godoy was cast as Monkey D. Luffy in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece, which premiered in 2023.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Godoy has a younger sister, Mia, who has alopecia areata—an autoimmune condition that leads to hair loss. He has actively supported the Children’s Alopecia Project: Grupo México to help raise awareness about the condition among children.

After completing the first season of One Piece, he spent 80 days sailing in the Caribbean, where he learned cooking and navigation skills using compasses and constellations.

In early 2024, after being cast as Luffy, Godoy began learning Japanese so he could connect more directly with Japanese fans. That same year, he conducted an on-set interview in Cape Town with One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda entirely in Japanese. In August 2025, he attended One Piece Day ’25 in Tokyo, where he addressed the audience fully in Japanese.
