Ganja Karuppu

Biography:

Ganja Karuppu, an Indian actor primarily known for his comedy roles in Tamil cinema, began his career in Bala’s film “Pithamagan” in 2003, where he portrayed a character working in ganja plantations. Due to this role, he came to be recognized as Ganja Karuppu in the industry. He found success in the late 2000s with notable appearances in movies like “Raam” (2005), “Sivakasi” (2005), “Paruthiveeran” (2007), “Subramaniyapuram” (2008), and “Naadodigal” (2009). During this period, he also played the second lead in Chimbudevan’s “Arai En 305-il Kadavul” (2008) and starred in a film titled “Mannar Valaikuda,” which unfortunately did not see a theatrical release.

In 2012, Ganja Karuppu had plans to venture into Bollywood for the Hindi remake of Samuthirakani’s “Poraali” (2011), with the intention of changing his name to “Ganja Khan” for his Bollywood career. However, this project did not materialize. He also tried his hand at film production with “Velmurugan Borewells” (2014), which faced production delays and had a low-key theatrical release, leading to financial setbacks. Director Bala criticized him for jeopardizing his acting career with this move. After a hiatus from notable films, Ganja Karuppu made a comeback with significant roles in “Isai” (2015) and “Dharma Durai” (2016). He also participated in the first season of the Tamil reality TV show “Bigg Boss” in 2017 but was evicted on day 14 after conflicts with fellow contestant Bharani.

In his personal life, Ganja Karuppu married Sangeetha, a physiotherapist, in January 2010, and they had their first child in April 2011. He demonstrated his philanthropic side by adopting the expenses of five mentally ill individuals in Trichy in 2013. Additionally, in 2016, he expressed his intentions of entering politics.
