Edida Nageswara Rao

Biography:

Indian film producer Edida Nageswara Rao, who produced Telugu films, was born on 24 April 1934 and died on 4 October 2015. He operated under the name Poornodaya Movie Creations, producing realistic and classically influenced movies. Nearly every movie he produced went on to win a National Cinema Award. Five state Nandi Awards were his.

The films Siri Siri Muvva (1976), Sankarabharanam (1980), Swati Mutyam (1986), and Swayam Krushi (1987) were presented at the Moscow Film Festival and were produced by Nageswara Rao. India’s submission for the 59th Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film was called Swati Mutyam.

Born into a Kapu family in Kothapeta, in the erstwhile East Godavari district (now Konaseema district), Edida Nageswara Rao was Sattiraju Naidu’s child. His films in partnership with K. Viswanath, Bharathiraja, and Vamsy are among his most enduring credits.

These were the films Sankarabharanam (1980), Seethakoka Chilaka (1981), Sagara Sangamam (1983), Sitaara (1984), and Swathi Muthyam (1986), which demonstrated the creative values of Telugu cinema.

The majority of the movies he produced took home major prizes from the National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South, and Nandi Awards. Additionally, they were shown at a number of international film festivals. These were also translated into Russian and released there.

Prior to branching out into film production, he worked as a dubbing artist, theater actor, and movie actor. He served as the Chairman of the Nandi Awards Committee, a member of the National Film Award Committee, and the Council Secretary for Telugu film producers after retiring from the film industry. Edida Nageswara Rao passed away on October 4, 2015, at the age of 81, while receiving care for illnesses associated with aging in a private hospital.
