American rapper and actor Lonnie Rashid Lynn, better known by his stage name Common (previously Common Sense), was born on March 13, 1972. At the age of 20, he signed with the independent label Relativity Records and went on to win three Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. His first three studio albums were released on the label: One Day It’ll All Make Sense (1997), Resurrection (1994), and Can I Borrow a Dollar? (1992). His involvement with the Black music collective Soulquarians helped him get national recognition, but he continued to have an underground fan base into the late 1990s.
