American film producer, television producer, and production manager Clayton Townsend was born on February 9, 1961. He worked closely with director Oliver Stone as an assistant producer and (co-)producer between 1988 and 1999. Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Natural Born Killers (1994), and Any Given Sunday (1999) are notable films from the era. Daniel Pyne’s Where’s Marlowe? (1998) and Abel Ferrara’s The Blackout (1997) are two more noteworthy productions. Additionally, he was an executive producer on Joel Schumacher’s Bad Company (2002) and David Mirkin’s MGM comedy Heartbreakers (2001). Townsend has produced a number of television pilots for Paramount Television in addition to feature films, such as the television movie Homeland Security from 2004.
Townsend’s film Born on the Fourth of July earned him the 1990 Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures. Oliver Stone and he shared this honour. For Bridesmaids, Clayton received a nomination in 2012 for the Producers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. He has served as president of Itinerant Film Corporation, a Los Angeles-based private production firm, since 1992.
