Chakrapani Ananda made his cinematic debut in the critically acclaimed 1988 film Daasi by B. Narsing Rao, but the role did not lead to a breakthrough for him as an actor. After getting to know Devipriya, one of the Daasi screenplay writers, he was offered the part in the movie. He was suggested to Narsing Rao by Devipriya. He started directing a documentary called Waiting for Death in 2013 about the effects of fluorosis on residents of Nalgonda, his hometown. He was hired to play the father in the 2019 film Mallesham, which takes place 25 years after Daasi.
Laxman Aelay, the production designer for Mallesham, recommended him to director Raj, and he was given the part. Raj’s assistant conducted the audition because Raj was away in America at the time. Ananda Chakrapani requested a second audition after his first one ended in failure, and Raj’s assistant chose him.His performance in Mallesham led to further film offers for him. After appearing in Mallesham, he began to receive more offers.
