Ashutosh Gowariker is an Indian filmmaker known for directing Hindi films. He’s famous for creating movies that are grand in scale and visually rich.
His most notable works include “Lagaan” (2001), a musical sports drama set during the British Raj, “Swades” (2004), a social drama, and “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008), an epic historical romance. “Lagaan” and “Jodhaa Akbar” won him Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director.
“Lagaan” even earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, which made him a voting member of the Academy Awards. Despite being primarily a director, Gowariker showcased his acting skills in the critically acclaimed comedy drama “Ventilator” (2016).
Gowariker was born into a Marathi-speaking family in Kolhapur. He is married to Sunita, and they have two sons named Konark and Vishwang.
