Alphonse Puthren was born in Aluva, Kerala, to Manjooran family members Daisy Chacko and Puthren Paul. He went to Amrita Vidyalayam’s higher secondary, Mount Tabor School in Kalamassery, and St. Aloysius High School in North Paravur. Following his graduation from MES College Marampally, Aluva with a Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), he went on to S. A. E. College in Chennai to obtain a diploma in filmmaking.
Aleena Mary Anthony and Alphonse were wed on August 26, 2015. She is the daughter of Ananya Films’ owner and well-known film producer, Alwyn Anthony. Their daughter Aina was born in 2018 and their son Ethan was born in 2016.
Indian filmmaker, producer, actor, editor, writer, and director of advertisements is Alphonse Puthren. His primary field of work is Malayalam cinema. The critically acclaimed bilingual suspense-thriller Neram (2013), which was shot in Malayalam and Tamil, marked his directorial debut.

Alphonse began directing music videos and short films after receiving his degree. His first two pieces, Arkan and Sutrum Vizhi, were finished while he was in college. He produced the short film Cling Cling in 2008. His next project was a short film called Neram, in which Vijay Sethupathi played a key role. A later creation of Alphonse’s was the stop-motion music video for the song Flavours.
The Angel, his subsequent short film, starred Bobby Simha and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead parts. Rajesh Murugesan composed the music for the Malayalam music video Dhaaham, which Puthren directed. Saachin-Sreejith’s music for the song Nenjodu Cherthu, from the album Yuvvh, was directed by Puthren. Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim’s video went “hugely popular”.
His next short film, Eli, was produced by actor/director/singer Vineeth Sreenivasan and starred Bobby Simha, Nivin Pauly, and Rajeev Pillai in a seductive story. Puthren debuted in the advertising industry by directing the Bangs Fried Chicken chain’s commercial. Neram, the full-length feature film adaptation of his short film, marked his feature film debut in 2013.
Bobby Simha, Nazriya Nazim, and Nivin Pauly played the main roles in this bilingual Tamil and Malayalam movie. In addition to editing the movie, he wrote the screenplay. He wrote the screenplay, edited the movie, and made a brief appearance in it in addition to directing the 2015 Nivin Pauly film Premam. The movie went on to become one of the highest grossing Malayalam movies ever and a box office success.
Alphonse announced on social media in April 2017 that a Tamil-language film would be his third feature film director. The trailers for Vinesh Sreenivasan’s Thattathin Marayathu, Priyadarshan’s Oppam, and Priyadarshan’s Marakkar were edited by Alphonse Puthren. In the movie Super Deluxe, he edited the “Ding Dong Promo Cut” as well.
