Since 1999, American film editor Alisa Lepselter, who was born in 1963, has edited films directed by Woody Allen. In 1985, Lepselter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art history from Duke University. As an intern for editor Craig McKay on Something Wild (directed by Jonathan Demme, 1986), Lepselter started her editing career. She worked as an apprentice for editor Barry Malkin on the 1989 New York Stories section directed by Francis Ford Coppola. She assisted Robert M. Reitano on three Nora Ephron-related films (My Blue Heaven (1990), This is My Life (1992), and Mixed Nuts (1994)) and Thelma Schoonmaker on Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of The Age of Innocence (1993).
Nicole Holofcener’s Walking and Talking (1996), which was also Holofcener’s first picture as a filmmaker, earned Lepselter his first editing credit. She has edited every Woody Allen picture since Sweet and Lowdown (1999), taking over from Susan E. Morse, who had edited Allen’s films for the preceding 20 years. For Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) and Midnight in Paris (2011), Lepselter received two nominations for the American Cinema Editors “Eddie” Award.
