Biography:

Sriya Reddy, an Indian actress, television presenter, and video jockey, has made a mark in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. Born on November 28, 1983, she comes from a family with a cricketing background, as her father is the former Indian test cricketer Bharath Reddy. Before pursuing her acting career, Sriya gained popularity as a successful video jockey at SS Music. After winning the VJ competition at SS Music, Sriya began hosting shows like Connect and Phonetastic. Interestingly, she had to undergo five auditions before being selected for this role.

Sriya’s debut in the film industry happened with the Tamil movie “Samurai,” directed by Balaji Sakthivel, in which she played a supporting role alongside Vikram. Her maiden Telugu release, “Appudappudu,” didn’t fare well at the box office, leading her to take a hiatus from films for over a year. In 2004, she made her Malayalam debut with “Black,” starring opposite Mammootty. In the film, she portrayed a young Tamil village woman searching for her missing husband, adopting a thoroughly de-glamorized appearance, which was a departure from her real-life look. This film was a significant milestone in her career, as she had the opportunity to act alongside the esteemed Malayalam actor Mammootty. In the same year, she also starred in an English film titled “19 Revolutions,” where she played a rich girl with intentions of robbing her father, achieving success, particularly in the United States.

In 2005, Sriya had a single release, the Malayalam action film “Bharathchandran I.P.S.,” which became a box office hit. Her portrayal of an IPS police officer garnered praise from critics, drawing comparisons to the iconic Vijayashanti. In 2006, she had four film releases, with two Tamil films gaining significant recognition. In “Thimiru,” directed by Tarun Gopi and starring Vishal Krishna, who is her later brother-in-law, Sriya played a rustic, outspoken character with negative shades, receiving critical acclaim for her performance. The S. Shankar-produced drama film “Veyil,” directed by Vasanthabalan, featured Sriya as part of a talented ensemble cast. The film received rave reviews and won numerous awards, including the National Film Award and two Filmfare Awards.

Sriya also played a pivotal role in Priyadarshan’s art film “Kanchivaram,” which earned critical acclaim and received the National Film Award. Sriya’s performance earned her nominations for the Filmfare Award and the Vijay Award. After completing the shooting for “Kanchivaram,” Sriya took a hiatus from acting.

Eight years later, Sriya made a comeback in the film industry with the movie “Andaava Kaanom,” directed by Vadivel, where she portrayed the character of an angry village woman named Shanthi. Sriya Reddy married actor-producer Vikram Krishna on March 9, 2008, at the Park Sheraton hotel in Chennai. Vikram Krishna, the son of veteran film producer G. K. Reddy and brother of actor Vishal Krishna, initially acted in a few Tamil films before becoming a full-time film producer, primarily producing films featuring his brother Vishal in leading roles under his GK Films Corporation. Sriya has also ventured into film production alongside her husband. The couple has a daughter named Amalia.
