Biography:

Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter Mahesh Bhatt was born on September 20, 1948, and is best recognized for his work in Hindi cinema. Among his many honors are four National Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards.

Saaransh (1984), which was presented at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival, is a noteworthy film from his early career. It became India’s formal submission for that year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Naam (1986) was his debut feature picture in a commercial setting. He became a producer in 1987 when he and his brother Mukesh Bhatt worked together on the movie Kabzaa under the “Vishesh Films” label.

In the ensuing ten years, Mahesh emerged as one of the most renowned directors in the Indian film industry, helming critically acclaimed films like Daddy (1989) and Swayam (1991) in addition to mainstream romantic hits like Aashiqui (1990) and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991), starring Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan.

His second film, Sadak (1991), was produced by Vishesh Films and was a smash. To this day, it is his biggest grossing film in either direction.

Mahesh had critical and commercial success in the 1990s with his films Sir (1993), Gumraah (1993), and Criminal (1994). For his direction of Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), he was awarded the 1994 National Film Award – Special Jury Award.

He directed Tamanna, which took home the Best Film on Other Social Issues National Film Award in 1996. His autobiographical film Zakhm, which won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in 1999, was directed by him.

After that, Bhatt and his brother collaborated to form Vishesh Films, from which they produced over twenty successful box office films with heir stories and screenplays. Raaz (2002), Jism (2003), Murder (2004), Gangster (2006).

Woh Lamhe (2006), Jannat (2008), Murder 2 (2011), and Aashiqui 2 (2013) are just a few of the modern movies that Bhatt has made.[4] Due to disagreements between the brothers, Mukesh took over Vishesh Films, and it was made known to the public in May 2021 that Mahesh was leaving the company.

Shirin Mohammad Ali and Nanabhai Bhatt are the parents of Bhatt. Bhatt’s mother was a Gujarati Muslim, and his father was a Gujarati Hindu Nagar Brahmin.

The Indian film producer Mukesh Bhatt is one of his siblings. Bhatt attended Don Bosco High School in Matunga for his education. Bhatt began working summer jobs while still in school in order to get money and do product endorsements. Through acquaintances, he was introduced to film director Raj Khosla. Thus, Bhatt began working for Khosla as an assistant director.
