Kulasekhar

Kulasekhar, a prolific film lyricist hailing from Simhachalam, has left an indelible mark on the Telugu film industry with his lyrical prowess. His journey into the world of cinema was influenced by his deep-rooted passion for musical literature, nurtured since childhood. He exhibited his talent early on by composing songs during his school days and even clinching prizes for his lyrical compositions.

After completing his education, Kulasekhar embarked on a career as a reporter with the ETV group. However, his love for music and poetry eventually led him to pursue a career in the film industry. Under the guidance of renowned lyricist Sirivennela Sitarama Shastri, Kulasekhar honed his skills in composing film songs, paving the way for his debut as a lyricist in a film produced by Ushakiran Movies and directed by Teja.

Collaborating with eminent music director R. P. Patnaik and director Teja, Kulasekhar contributed his lyrical genius to numerous successful films, including “10 Class” and “Bralo.” His ability to craft meaningful and melodious lyrics endeared him to audiences and cemented his reputation as a sought-after lyricist in the industry.

However, Kulasekhar’s life took a tumultuous turn when he became embroiled in controversy. In 2013, he faced legal troubles and was sentenced to six months in jail for stealing a shrine in Kakinada. Subsequent investigations revealed that he was suffering from mental health issues, leading to his transfer to Rajahmundry for treatment.

Tragically, around 2008, Kulasekhar began experiencing symptoms of a brain disease, resulting in memory loss and erratic behavior. Despite his struggles, his family and relatives seemed indifferent to his plight, leaving his wife to shoulder the responsibility of caring for their two children while working at a private company.

Even his brothers in Vizag showed little concern for his well-being, and in Hyderabad, he faced financial difficulties and accumulated debts. Despite his career successes, Kulasekhar’s mental health challenges and personal hardships took a toll on him, culminating in depression exacerbated by the delays in the release of his directorial venture, “Premalekha Rasha.”

Kulasekhar’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of mental health and the importance of compassion and support during times of adversity. Despite his setbacks, his contributions to the world of Telugu cinema endure, immortalized through the timeless melodies he crafted as a gifted lyricist.
