Needi Naadi Oke Katha, translated as “You and I share the same story,” stands as a 2018 Indian Telugu-language satirical social problem film. The movie marks the directorial debut of Venu Udugula and is brought to life through the collaborative production efforts of Krishna Vijay, Atluri Narayana Rao, and Prashanti under Aran Media Works.
The film features Sree Vishnu and Satna Titus in lead roles, supported by Posani Krishna Murali and Devi Prasad in significant supporting capacities. The narrative delves into social issues with a satirical lens, showcasing the distinctive storytelling approach that has become synonymous with the film.
The narrative revolves around Rudra Raju Sagar (Sree Vishnu), a middle-class youth from Kurnool struggling with continuous academic failures, much to the disappointment of his father (Devi Prasad), who is a teacher. Despite his sister excelling academically, Sagar’s persistent failures lead to a critical realization. Determined to fulfill his father’s wishes, he seeks guidance from Dharmika (Satna Titus), a high-achieving student recommended by his sister.
Initially dismissed as a flirt, Sagar’s sincerity becomes evident, and Dharmika starts mentoring him, suggesting a study schedule and recommending self-confidence books.
Sagar undergoes a drastic lifestyle change, distancing himself from friends for the sake of his father. Dharmika introduces him to Anand Ram Shankar (Posani Krishna Murali), a motivational speaker whose sessions Sagar eventually finds to be fraudulent. As their relationship deepens, Dharmika confesses her love, but Sagar, feeling like a failure, rejects her. However, Dharmika reveals her own struggles with a false image as a topper, realizing parallels with Sagar’s story. She emphasizes the flaws in the educational system, promoting a rat race that obscures individual talents.
Recognizing that he doesn’t fit into this system, Sagar accepts Dharmika’s proposal, and they decide to escape to Ooty without informing their parents. Upon returning, they face scrutiny for missing exams, with Dharmika managing to cover her tracks. Sagar attempts to persuade his father to let him discontinue studies and pursue a different path, but their disagreement leads Sagar to leave home. In Hyderabad, Sagar and Dharmika embark on a new life independently.
After working as a cab driver, Sagar unexpectedly encounters his father at a pickup point. He convinces his father that true happiness lies in living without the pressure of false prestige. Sagar asserts that though he may struggle academically, he excels in the study of life and promises to make his father proud in the future. The film concludes with Sagar’s father accepting both Sagar and Dharmika into the family.
